India Post GDS Recruitment 2026: Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications has released biggest 10th pass central govt job notification for 23,757 posts of Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) including Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM) and Dak Sevak. Official Advertisement No is 17-12/2026-GDS Dated 27 August 2026. Online apply started from 2 September 2026 (5 PM) at indiapostgdsonline.gov.in. Last date is 21 September 2026 till 5 PM.

Eligibility - Who Can Apply for Assam / NE Circle?

1. Education Qualification:

• Class 10th Pass with passing marks in Mathematics and English (Compulsory) from recognized Board (SEBA / CBSE / State Board).
• Must have studied Local Language at least upto 10th Class. For Assam Circle - Assamese / Bengali / Bodo. For NE Circle - English/Hindi or local language of that state.
• No higher qualification weightage - Only 10th marks considered for merit.

2. Language for Assam Circle:

• For 322 Posts: Assamese upto 10th
• For 77 Posts: Bengali upto 10th
• For 15 Posts: Bodo upto 10th
• For NE Circle 1354 Posts: English/Hindi + Knowledge of local NE language preferred

3. Other Requirements:

• Computer Knowledge: Basic Computer Knowledge required. 60 days Computer Certificate from recognized institute required at time of verification (Can submit after selection within 2 months).
• Cycling Knowledge: Knowledge of cycling (Scooter / Motorcycle also accepted).
• Adequate Means of Livelihood: Must have other income source.

4. Age Limit as on 21 September 2026:

• Minimum: 18 Years
• Maximum: 40 Years
• OBC: 3 Years Relaxation (43 Years)
• SC/ST: 5 Years Relaxation (45 Years)
• PwD: 10 Years, PwD+OBC: 13 Years, PwD+SC/ST: 15 Years

Salary / TRCA Details - How Much You Will Get?

GDS are NOT regular central govt employees. They are governed by GDS Rules. They get TRCA (Time Related Continuity Allowance) + DA.

Other Benefits: GDS Gratuity up to Rs 5 Lakh after 10 years, GDS Group Insurance, Annual Increment 3% every year, DA increase twice a year.

Selection Process - No Exam

There is NO written exam and NO interview. Selection is purely based on System Generated Merit List from 10th Standard Marks.

• Merit prepared on basis of Marks / Percentage / Grade converted to marks in 10th with Maths and English.
• Higher 10th percentage = Higher chance. If you have 90%+ in SEBA, you have very high chance for Assam Circle.
• If two candidates have same marks, older candidate gets preference.
• Merit list released circle wise at indiapostgdsonline.gov.in
• After merit list, Document Verification + Medical at Divisional Head.

Important: No weightage for higher qualification. Even if you are Graduate, only 10th marks counted.

How to Apply Online for India Post GDS 2026 - Step by Step for Assam Students

1. OTR Registration (First Step - Mandatory): Visit indiapostgdsonline.gov.in -> Click on "Registration" -> Enter Name, Mobile, Email, DOB, Gender, Community. You will get OTR Number. Complete OTR before 19 Sept 5 PM.
2. Fee Payment: If you are UR/OBC/EWS Male, pay Rs 100 online via UPI/Card/Net Banking. Female/SC/ST no fee.
3. Fill Application Form: Login with OTR Number -> Select Circle Preference. For Assam Students: Preference 1 - Assam Circle (Assamese 322) if you have Assamese in 10th, Preference 2 - North Eastern Circle English/Hindi 1354. You can select multiple circles but fee same.
4. Select Division & Post Preference: Within Assam Circle, you can select up to 20+ post offices. Choose your home district / nearby BO first.
5. Upload Documents: Recent Photo (50kb), Signature (20kb), 10th Marksheet, Caste Certificate, PWD Certificate if applicable.
6. Final Submit: Preview carefully - Circle selection cannot be changed after submit (Only correction allowed on 23-24 Sept for some fields). Save Application Number.

Tips to Get Selected in Assam Circle GDS - High 10th Marks Strategy

• Assam Circle cut off last year: UR - 92-95%, OBC - 88-91%, SC - 85-88%, ST - 80-85% (For Assamese language). For Bengali/Bodo posts cut off slightly lower.
• If your 10th percentage is less than 80%, apply for Bodo / Bengali posts + NE Circle English/Hindi posts where cut off is lower.
• Select maximum post offices (20+) in your district to increase chance.
• Don't apply only for 1-2 posts - System will consider your merit for all selected preferences.
• Keep your 10th marksheet ready with exact marks as per board formula. For SEBA grading system, convert grades to marks as per SEBA circular.
